Becoming Maleficent was no easy feat.

Fortunately, the two and half hours it took to transform Angelina Jolie into the Mistress of All Evil helped her get into character. "I'm not the most patient person in the world," she tells E! News. "But then that would work, too, because if I was irritated it was great for the character." Jolie also praised the "great team" for their efforts, saying her time in the makeup chair "could have been much worse."

To make the 38-year-old actress resemble the iconic Disney villain, makeup artist Rick Baker used prosthetics to give Jolie razor-sharp cheekbones. Baker also created a prosthetic nose and prosthetic ears. Maleficent's horns, meanwhile, were custom-made to be lightweight, magnetic and removable.

Maleficent's robe was made using a dense Japanese material with tiny pleats, which was finished with some leather. Costume designer Anna B. Sheppard also commissioned five rings made of leather.

Maleficent, co-starring Elle Fanning, is in theaters May 30.
