Why did Solange Knowles attack Jay Z after the Met Gala?

It's the question everyone's been asking since leaked surveillance footage showed the singer lunging at her brother-in-law. The incident occurred as they were leaving The Standard's Boom Boom Room in New York City May 6. While neither musician has said anything about the events that transpired that morning, Chelsea Handler had fun imagining what might have caused the fight on Chelsea Lately.

During Monday's round table segment, Handler reiterated that "no one really knows exactly what happened," with the exception of Solange, Jay Z, Beyoncé and their security guard. The E! host joked about the Knowles girls, saying, "Sisters need to stick together because blood is thicker than penis."

Comedian John Caparulo humorously imagined what prompted Solange to fly off the handle during the tense elevator ride, saying, "What if she told him, 'Do not fart when we get in this elevator?' And he did and she just wailed on him. He's like, 'I had eggs! I'm sorry! I had eggs!'"

Handler had trouble pronouncing Solange's name but was relieved when paparazzi footage showed she's not the only one. "See!" she said. "That photographer didn't even know how to say her name!"

Chelsea Lately writer Chris Franjola was shocked that Solange's sister didn't appear to intervene in the video. "Why didn't Beyoncé do anything during the fight? She just stood there," he marveled. "Now she knows what it's like to be in Destiny's Child—someone else does all the work while she does s--t."

In Beyoncé's defense, Handler said, "If we're speculating, it looks like she was pissed at him, too." She assumed that the video was "probably" taken at 4 a.m., "so they were probably all pretty wasted."

After seeing Solange go H.A.M., Franjola said she's a perfect candidate for reality TV. "Real Housewives of Atlanta called her right away," he joked. "Like, 'Solang-ay, we need you on this show—now!'"

Following the video leak, the Standard Hotel issued a statement to E! News.

"We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests," the hotel said. "We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity."

(E! and Real Housewives of Atlanta are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
