Despite the drop in ratings this year, American Idol fhas been renewed for Season 14, Fox confirms o E! News.
The network made the news official by announcing the audition dates for the reality singing competition's next season, which will hit 15 cities across the country and kick off on June 18 in Minneapolis.
Idol's auditions will also be held in New Orleans, Nashville, Los Angeles and Uniondale, N.Y., while viewers will also have the option to try out online and through the American Idol Audition Tour Bus.
The renewal news comes on the heels of Fox's cancellation of four shows, including Enlisted and Rake.
Despite bringing back fan favorite judge Jennifer Lopez and bringing newbie Harry Connick Jr., who has earned praise for his critiques and chemistry with Lopez and Keith Urban, to the table, American Idol's ratings have continued to drop in Season 13, which is currently down to its final four contestants. No word yet on who will be sitting at the judges' table in Season 14.
The most recent performance episode of Idol attracted just 8.65 million viewers and notched a 1.9 rating in the all-important adults 18-49 demo, while last week's results show brought in a series-low 6.9 million viewers and 1.5 demo rating.
While Fox decided to renew American Idol for another season, its other reality singing competition wasn't so lucky as the network decided to cancel The X Factor after just three seasons.
"I've had a fantastic time over the last 12 years, both on The X Factor and American Idol. And apart from being lucky enough to find some amazing talent on the shows, I have always had an incredible welcome from the American public (most of the time!)," Simon Cowell, who served as a judge and producer, said in a statement.
But could America just be over reality singing shows? While NBC's The Voice is still beating Idol in the ratings, Season 6 has hit all-time lows.
