Getting Anna Wintour to stay and chat awhile isn't the easiest thing to do, especially during the Met ball—she's the woman of the evening, after all.

But E!'s own Alicia Quarles was able to just that last night during the Costume Institute gala.

Anna stopped to talk exclusively with Alicia, and she got candid about how meaningful the whole day had been for her. Not only was she hosting the Met ball that evening, but the morning had been hugely historical for her, too.

Earlier in the day Michelle Obama joined her in cutting the ribbon during the grand opening of the newly renovated Anna Wintour's Costume Center wing in the Met, and clearly that moment touched Anna. The typically straight-faced editor even got a little misty-eyed during the ceremony.

And even though Anna is known for being serious, when Alicia asked her if she's had time to really take in the whole overwhelming day, Anna joked, "Maybe tomorrow!"

Watch the video above to hear Anna open up and talk about how important having the presence of the first lady was for her.
