First lady Michelle Obama's brother, Craig Robinson, has been benched by Oregon State.

Robinson, who was head coach of the school's men's basketball team, was fired Monday.

The school tweeted the news just before 10 a.m. writing, "Head @OregonStateMBB coach Craig Robinson has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately. "

Robinson had an overall record of 94-105 with Oregon State, and went six seasons without making the NCAA tournament.

But the team's failing record wasn't exactly a surprise, because Oregon State hasn't made it to the tournament since 1990.

Robinson is a frequent visitor to Washington, D.C. He attended both of President Barack Obama's inaugurations, and some of the president's "State of the Union" speeches.

Mrs. Obama's brother was hired in 2008 as the 20th head coach at Oregon State, the school's newspaper wrote on its website.

"I want to thank Coach Robinson and his family for their contributions to Oregon State University," Oregon State Athletic Director Bob De Carolis said in a statement. "This was a difficult decision, but after further evaluation, I believe it is in the best interests of our student-athletes, our basketball program and our University."

Robinson was even credited with helping to book Mrs. Obama as the school's commencement speaker in 2012.
