It's official: The Comeback will return for a new season of six episodes. E! News previously reported the Lisa Kudrow comedy would begin production this May. A fall release date is eyed.

"It was almost too fun [to] play Valerie Cherish the first time around," Kudrow said in a statement. "I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character."

When The Comeback returns for a limited series, former sitcom star Valerie Cherish (Kudrow) "thinks she has it all figured out this time," HBO said in a release. "She doesn't."

"In the new episodes, Valerie continues her search to attain the spotlight, but this time around, it illuminates a whole new series of problems when she achieves the visibility she wants," HBO's official description reads.

Michael Patrick King and Kudrow created the beloved series and return as executive producers alongside Dan Bucatinsky.

"The Comeback holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans, including many of us here at HBO," Michael Lombardo, president of programming at HBO, said in a statement. "I can't wait to find out what Valerie's been up to since we last met."

This season of The Comeback will be written by King, Kudrow, Amy B. Harris and John Riggi. Confirmed castmembers include Kudrow, Lance Barber, Bucatinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young. Malin Akerman and Kellan Lutz starred in the first season of The Comeback in 2005.

"I'm so excited to be working with Valerie Cherish again,"King said in a statement. "It's great to be able to continue her story and I'm thrilled to have The Comeback come back to HBO, where it all started."
