Upon receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the ceremony, the Oscar winner thanked Brad Pitt, among others, saying, "My love. Your support and your guidance make everything I do possible."
The actress's hubby-to-be and their son, Maddox, were on hand to support Jolie as she received the honor for her tireless humanitarian efforts.
"I'm not going to cry, I promise," Jolie said to Maddox from the stage. "I'm not going to embarrass you. You and your brothers and sisters are my happiness and there is no greater honor in this world than being your mom."
Before she took the stage, veteran actress Gena Rowland and George Lucas both talked about Jolie's philanthropic contributions as did stars from her film, In the Land of Blood and Honey.
"I will do as my mother asked and I will do the best I can with this life to be of use," a teary-eyed Jolie said. "And to stand here today means I did as she asked and if she were alive she'd be very proud, so thank you."
During the dinner portion of the evening, Jolie held court at a front table, chatting with Emma Thompson, Ed Begley Jr., Tatum O'Neal, director Steve McQueen and Raquel Welch, among others, before the awards ceremony began.
The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, is given "to an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry," Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said when they announced this year's honorees in September.
Honorary Oscars were also handed out to Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi.
