Kerry Washington handled hosting Saturday Night Live on Nov. 2. And right out of the gate, she wasted no time helping to poke fun at the diversity issue on the sketch comedy program.
The Scandal star appeared as Michelle Obama, alongside Jay Pharoah's President Barack Obama in the show's cold open, playing her to a tee.
"Michelle, this is such a treat. I feel like it's been years since I've seen you!" Pharoah exclaimed.
And it's true. Nobody has portrayed the First Lady since Maya Rudolph, and she left the show in 2007.
But, the fun didn't last long. The duo was interrupted by a White House aide (Taran Killam), who said that Oprah Winfrey had just arrived.
"So, don't you think you should go and get changed?" Killam quipped.
Washington tried to resist, asking if Kenan Thompson would step-in, but nope.
As Washington exited the mock oval office, the following message was read and shown on the screen:
"The producers at Saturday Night Live would like to apologize to Kerry Washington for the number of black women she will be asked to play tonight. We made these requests both because Ms. Washington is an actress of considerable range and talent and also because SNL does not currently have a black woman in the cast. As for the latter reason, we agree this is not an ideal situation and look forward to rectifying it in the near future. Unless of course, we fall in love with another white guy first."
Washington didn't miss a beat with her Oprah impersonation, with her big curly hair and nailing the media mogul's trademark voice.
But, again she was asked to depart because Beyoncé was waiting, to which Washington drew the line.
Rev. Al Sharpton made a special appearance at the conclusion of the sketch, declaring "what have we learned from this sketch? As usual, nothing."
The 36-year-old actress' monologue, where she donned a loose fitting short black dress, perfectly concealing her baby bump, didn't address her recent pregnancy announcement. Instead, she focused on her ABC hit series, where she portrays the ultimate fixer in Washington, D.C.
After showing a picture of her costar, Tony Goldwyn, also known as President Fitzgerald Grant, she joked "I'm so proud in 2013 to be on a show that has the courage to cast a white man as the President."
Mistaking her with her alter ego, Olivia Pope, a few cast members then asked Washington to help her solve problems. Most notable mention goes to Thompson, who was covered in blood but needed assistance finding his car keys.
Washington collaborated again with Pharoah, after their spot on impersonation of the Obama's, mocking the catchy hit song "The Fox" by Ylvis' in a highly amusing music video. Instead of "What Does the Fox Say," Pharoah asks "What Does My Girl Say?" after discovering his jealous girlfriend can't resist the urge to go through his cellphone. Classic.
Musical guest Eminem took the stage twice, performing his latest hits "Beserk" and "Survival."
