There's nothing like a duet with Oscar the Grouch to liven up an awards show.

He may be known for his grumpy demeanor, but the Sesame Street Muppet managed to make the audience smile when he sang a number with host Anderson Cooper at the 39th annual Daytime Emmy Awards Saturday in Beverly Hills.

"I hate daytime. It's the worst time of the day!" Oscar the Grouch complains as he and Cooper kick off the show.

Cooper then explains to the garbage-bound Muppet that he is indeed a part of daytime television and asks why he's at the award show if he's just going to grump.

"Elmo was busy," Oscar quips.

And that's just the beginning of the back-and-forth banter! Oscar sings "What's so great about daytime?" while Cooper tries to convince the little green guy that daytime television is a crucial part of our boob-tube viewing:

"What about all the great things that have happened on daytime TV over the years?" Anderson asks. "Remember Luke and Laura getting married, what about when Tom Cruise jumped all over Oprah's couch, how about when Alex Trebek shaved his mustache back in 2004?"

Well those are pretty fabulous moments (with approval from Oscar the Grouch)!
