Christina Applegate's return as Veronica Corningstone in the Anchorman sequel has been greatly slightly exaggerated.

It was just two weeks ago that costar David Koechner told us that the Up All Night actress had signed on for Will Ferrell's follow-up to the hit 2004 comedy. However, when I spoke to Ms. Applegate last night…

She said there's no deal in place…yet.

"I really don't know the status or if it's all going to happen," she said at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards at the Beverly Hilton, where she was honored with the Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award.

It's not as if Applegate doesn't want to reunite with Ferrell and the rest of the gang.

"Of course I would love to be there," she said. "They know that. The world knows that. Why would I not want to? It's the best job I've ever had—that and Sweet Charity [Applegate starred in a Broadway revival of the classic musical]. They know that I want to be there."

She added with a laugh, "Even if it's just a walk-on."

Others at last night's star-studded gala were fellow honorees Viola Davis and NBCUniversal's Bonnie Hammer, as well as Meryl Streep, Kate Flannery, Nia Vardalos, Marcia Gay Harden, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Stana Katic, Cloris Leachman, Will Arnett, Ed O'Neill and Diahann Carroll.
