Frazer Harrison/Getty ImagesAt a time when conservative America is making great strides achieving anti-gay platforms, the Emmys seem to be busy sending a different message: Gay is in.
"It feels very good to be on this show," the gay-centric Modern Family's Ty Burrell, told me backstage right after his win.
So what's the effect on anti-gay America?
"I think we're changing a lot of minds," Burrell said, handsome in his slim tux and humble gratitude.
Standing right next to Burrell, looking a bit like a J.Lo imitator, was Modern Family's Julie Bowen, who had just nabbed Best Supporting Actress.
It was hard to pay attention to what Bowen was talking about, with her dress slit down to there, but the funny lady (who plays a straight housewife) said she was shocked by her show's gay family values.
"Actually, I feel marginalized," Bowen deadpanned.
In a time when Sarah Palin actually encourages her daughters to use anti-gay lingo, you might think Bowen was serious—but hardly.
"I think it's absurd that [gay rights] are even an issue right now," Bowen said with the conviction matching her dress's daring.
