We know how her sister feels about it, but it's nice to finally hear Jessica Simpson address the subject of her recent engagement to Eric Johnson.

"I actually had to sit on his knee I was so shocked...to really get what was happening," she said today during an appearance on CBS' The Early Show about the proposal.

So what exactly is it about the former NFL player that made Jess accept?

"He's just really thoughtful and he keeps me very centered and always makes me feel like my feet are on the ground," she gushed. "He's probably the most special part of my life."

Jessica also pointed out that when Eric decided to ask for her hand in marriage, he "was a gentleman about it" and made sure to discuss it first with her parents.

And, sure enough, when the big moment arrived, the singer admitted it was a pretty emotional one.

"I said 'Yes' and we both definitely were teary-eyed," she said. "I didn't even try the ring on until like, five minutes in. I just kind of sat there and cried with him."

As for the Neil Lane-designed ruby ring Eric popped the question with, Jess said "it was all Eric's idea and he just wanted it to be special...He did good."
