Stranger pairings have (allegedly) happened. But this time around, John Mayer isn't content to let the public come to its own assumptions about his love life. And neither is the bizarrely rumored object of his affections, Food Network cutie Giada De Laurentiis.

Make that, married Food Network cutie Giada De Laurentiis, who, thanks to Star magazine, is the latest unsuspecting female to become a rumored notch on Mayer's ample bedpost.

Reps for both stars, however, wasted no time in putting this rumor on the chopping block.

According to the tabloid, which credited those ever ubiquitous "anonymous sources" with the supposed scoop, the TV chef got cozy with the music man at the Standard Hotel's Boom Boom Room, where Mayer's arm was supposedly wrapped around the pint-size chef.

They were later allegedly spotted at Hotel Gansevoort where they "disappeared into a suite together."

Both stars are calling foul on the report.

Mayer's rep told E! News that "the claims are absolutely ridiculous."

Giada herself released a statement on her Facebook and Twitter pages this morning decrying the rumors.

"I'm heartbroken this morning to find out how MALICIOUS the tabloids can be…I've been linked to John Mayer in NY last month….I haven't seen him since 2007!!!!"

The Giada at Home star's rep, meanwhile, was not quite as succinct (possibly because she's less used to this type of press) in her denial, but what she lacked in brevity, she made up for with conviction.

And with good reason. Like most TV cooks, hers is a domestic goddessness based on her family woman appeal.

"It is a shame a media outlet such as Star needs to rely on disgraceful lies and hide behind false anonymous 'sources' in order to entertain their readers," her rep said in a statement. "When the Star reporter approached Giada De Laurentiis on Sunday, while she was cohosting a children's fundraiser, Giada responded unequivocally that she did not see John Mayer when she was in New York for the Food and Wine Festival.

"Furthermore, contrary to the claims of an anonymous 'source,' at no time did Giada step foot in the Gansevoort Hotel. Giada indeed met John Mayer at a charity event in 2007 but has not seen him since. To be clear, they are not friends and cannot even go so far as to call John Mayer an acquaintance. There is not a sliver of truth to Star magazine's story.

"It is unfortunate Star would publish these malicious untruths without reporting the fact that Giada was with her husband [Anthropologie designer] Todd [Thompson] that weekend in New York, along with their family and friends. Giada De Laurentiis and her family deserve an apology and we demand an immediate retraction."

Sounds like she's not kidding.
