Randy Quaid's life on the lam goes on.
An immigration hearing that the Independence Day star was required to attend Monday has been pushed back until Nov. 23 after Quaid's lawyer told the court she needed more time to study the case, E! News has learned.
And talk about missed opportunities: for once Quaid was present when the decision to postpone was made!
The 60-year-old actor and his 47-year-old wife, Evi, were arrested last month after crossing the border on their way to Vancouver. Both are wanted in California for skipping out on a court hearings involving their Santa Barbara squatting case.
The paranoid pair, who has insisted there are "star whackers" out to murder them, face charges of vandalism, misdemeanor trespass and (for the missus) resisting arrest stemming from the September break-in.
Because Evi's father was born in Canada, she has claimed Canadian citizenship and Randy is hoping a court will grant him refugee status and ultimately asylum.
His lawyer, Catherine Sas, did not immediately return a phone call for comment.
By failing to show in SoCal, a judge in the vandalism and squatting case subsequently issued a warrant last Tuesday for Evi's arrest and forfeited her $500,000 bond, then did the same three days later when the erstwhile Cousin Eddie failed to check in.
Initially, Santa Barbara authorities believed Canadian authorities would prevent Randy from attending, but an attorney for the Canada Border Service Agency told the court that the thesp was free to go.
The Santa Barbara judge in turn ruled that Quaid's failure to appear "was a choice," not a prohibition over the objections of the couple's U.S.-based lawyer, Robert Sanger.
Should Randy miss the next court date in Santa Barbara, set for Nov. 16, the judge will activate the warrant issued last week for his arrest which was entered into the system but put on hold.
By the looks of things, we wouldn't count on either Quaid making it.
