"She takes everything in," producer Nigel Lythgoe tells us. But is she a diva, too?

Jenny From the Block is turning into Jenny With the Kleenex.

Like Paula Abdul had done so often in the past, Jennifer Lopez has actually been reduced to tears during the American Idol auditions…

"She has gotten emotional," A.I.'s returning producer Nigel Lythgoe told me last night at the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards at the Hyatt Regency hotel. "A lot of these kids tell their stories."

He added, "She takes everything in. There are no glib remarks. She'll listen and she'll critique what has been in front of her. She'll try and help the person, like, 'Maybe don't do that, maybe don't have so much vibrato...smooth it out' or "Terrific, you're a star, you've got it.'"

Lythgoe said Lopez and fellow new judge Steven Tyler "have taken to this like ducks to water."

"I think because Jennifer's such a fan of American Idol, she sort of just slipped straight into it," he said. "And Steven doesn't have a bad bone in his body. He finds it really difficult to say to an artist, 'You suck.' He just loves everybody who's got the guts to stand in front of him."

And Lythgoe made sure to point out, "Any rubbish of her being a diva is stupid."

Then he cracked, "Ryan Seacrest? Yes! But not Jennifer Lopez."

Once inside the awards gala, Lythgoe hit the Bombay Sapphire VIP preparty to mingle with the likes of honorees Jeff Bridges, Michael Sheen and Christopher Nolan along with emcee Stephen Fry, Rosario Dawson, Cillian Murphy, Dakota Fanning and the evening's most fashionable standout, Carey Mulligan, who ravished in a Preen dress and killer royal blue suede YSL heels.
