This can't be a good sign.

Mel Gibson has been dropped by his talent agency, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, putting him one step closer to full-on career apocalypto.

While no one official is coming right out and saying it, the reason has got to be his latest round of "you've got to be kidding" antics, including the nasty custody situation between him and Oksana Grigorieva; the domestic-violence investigation against him, whether it holds water or not; and now, the release of the audio recording of the profane tirade he directed at his baby mama.

But maybe the split was written in the cards months ago.

Endeavour founder Ari Emmanuel (aka the real-life Ari Gold ) was one of the bigwigs who demanded an industry-wide Gibson boycott in 2006, following the anti-Semitic rant that rattled the hills of Hollywood.

William Morris, which counted Gibson as a client for years, merged with Endeavor Talent last year. Then the Oscar winner's longtime agent, Ed Limato, died July 3.

And let's face it: Thanks to all of his troubles, starting with the controversy over The Passion of the Christ to his latest run-in with the tabloids, Gibson just isn't as bankable as he used to be. His starring-role comeback, the revenge thriller Edge of Darkness, amounted to a blip on the box-office radar with only $43.3 million, per BoxOfficeMojo.com.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, which first learned of the business breakup, WME's Patrick Whitesell informed the actor-director's camp earlier this week that the agency would no longer be providing its services to Gibson.

So far, no new takers have moved in. "It is way too soon to be discussing agency representation out of respect to Mel's 30-plus  years relationship with longtime agent Ed Limato," Gibson publicist Alan Nierob said in a statement.

That, and everyone's going to be discussing this for awhile in the meantime:

"You look like a [f---ing] bitch in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of n---ers, it will be your fault," Gibson can be heard saying on an audio recording obtained by RadarOnline, which first reported that Grigorieva had recorded the onetime Sexiest Man Alive (seems so long ago) yelling pretty terrible things at her.

"Keep them if you want to!" he's heard saying, accusing her of lying about having breast implants. "They look like a Vegas bitch, a Vegas whore."

"I don't trust you," he continues. "I don't love you. I don't want you."

Mel may have helped Britney in her time of need, but jail-bound Lindsay Lohan should probably look elsewhere for career-resurrection guidance.
