The girl with kaleidoscope eyes is gone.
Lucy Vodden, the woman who inspired John Lennon to pen one of the Beatles' most famous songs, "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" on 1967's Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, has died at the age of 46.
London's Daily Mail quoted a spokeswoman for the Brit-based St. Thomas Lupus Trust saying Vodden succumbed last Tuesday after battling the autoimmune disease for more than a year.
The real-life Lucy, whose maiden name was O'Donnell, was a nursery school playmate of John's son Julian. According to Beatles lore, when then 4-year-old Julian came home one day he showed John a picture he drew of a little girl soaring over a house and announced, "It's Lucy in the sky with diamonds."
At least that's how the elder Lennon described it when confronted by criticism that the song's title was an allusion to LSD.
Vodden and Julian reconnected after she was diagnosed with lupus. No word on funeral arrangements.
