Just when he thought he was out, they pull him back in.

Richard Hatch was jailed Tuesday night in Massachusetts, just hours after his pretaped interview with Matt Lauer aired on Today in which he blamed antigay discrimination for his lengthy prison sentence.

Officials, citing "privacy concerns," are being pretty tight-lipped when it comes to how Hatch went from A to Behind Bars.

But all signs point to some sort of violation concerning his return to the media spotlight yesterday.

Hatch, who is under home confinement until Oct. 7 and must get permission to run simple errands, had permission to speak with Lauer at his sister's Newport, R.I., home, where the onetime Survivor winner is serving the remainder of his 51-month prison sentence for federal income-tax evasion.

But, according to the Providence Journal, Hatch may not have secured the go-ahead to give an interview to a local radio station or sit down with Access Hollywood for an interview that didn't air until after he had been taken into custody.

"He's obviously violated some sort of condition of his house-arrest situation with them, but I don't know what it was," Roy Lyons, spokesman for the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, told the Journal today, saying that only the federal prison system could explain why Hatch was returned to the fold.

The outspoken reality-TV mastermind is entitled to a closed hearing within 72 hours of when he was first taken into custody. (And, knowing Hatch, we'll probably get a full update on his predicament in due time.)

But in the meantime, neither the Rhode Island U.S. Attorney's Office nor Hatch's attorney appear to know why the 48-year-old felon has been locked up again.

"I'm waiting to hear," Hatch's attorney, Cynthia Ribas, told Lauer on Today Wednesday morning. "I'm troubled that I haven't heard, at this late date, anything. I did reach one of the sheriffs, but she was grocery shopping last night and said she couldn't talk to me."
