As the temperature cools, the fashion scene is only heating up Down Under.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, which celebrated its 21st anniversary last year, is returning to the Carriageworks event space in Sydney for the Resort 18 Collections, and all eyes will be on a fresh lineup of designers, including Bec & Bridge, alice McCALL, Pageant, Romance Was Born and Zhivago.

Sydney is an ideal backdrop to spotlight resort wear, Australia being synonymous the world over with adventure and relaxed but cool style.

Six days of glamorous events and runway shows kick off May 14. The unique talent lineup of women's wear, as well as an expanded menswear presence, are catching the eye of some of the industry's top editors. Vogue and Vogue Paris, Elle and InStyle are all scheduled to attend the event.

And while MBFWA will be bigger than ever, that's not the only way the event is growing.

This year MBFWA will also be hosting ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Edition' on May 19 and 20, a ticketed series of events open to the public that gives fashion aficionados the chance to get a front-row look at the latest collections.

The event allows guests to experience fashion week like a VIP and meet designers, celebrity stylists, and other industry insiders while getting treated to hair and make-up, fashion career workshops, and professional runway shows. Some of the workshops that are being offered this year include a Seminar Series (featuring one held by global trend forecasting agency WGSN), a make-up techniques masterclass from Napoleon, , hair how-to's from stylists at Redken, and a workshop on starting your own fashion label presented by special guests Sarah Ellen and Sam Harris from Grazia.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekend Edition tickets are available for various shows, a seminar series and a photography masterclass—all of which will leave guests with serious wardrobe inspiration.

One of the most special things about MBFWA is its focus on local and relatively new designers, some of whom will be making their Fashion Week debuts at the St.George NextGen show, which serves to promote emerging talent from Australian universities.

Fresh from 2016's NEXTGEN show, Anna Hoang, who founded her brand Anna Quan (Kendall Jenner's a fan) after graduating from a fashion program in Sydney in 2011, will be making her solo show debut this year.

"The MBFWA Resort 18 Collections schedule pays homage to incredible, established designers while highlighting impressive, emerging local talent," says Catherine Bennett, Senior VP and Managing Director of IMG Fashion Events. "Whether established or emerging, MBFWA offers designers national and global exposure to help them achieve their brand and business goals."

Bella Hadidwalked the runway last year for Misha Collection, which chose the It Girl to be the face of its premium Misha Gold label, and the fashion world awaits to see who pops up in Sydney for Resort 18.

Dion Lee, who made his MBFWA debut in 2009, will be the first designer out of the gate this year, opening the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents' showcase, an honor he told the Daily Telegraph he's happy to have.

"I'm extremely excited, opening for MBFWA is something I've always wanted to do and this year, with a lot of new projects in the mix, the timing feels perfect," he told the paper in March. "I think there's a strong synergy between both brands [his and Mercedes] and a sophistication that speaks to our aesthetic through strong silhouettes and engineered design."

Tickets for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Weekend Edition are available through Ticketmaster.
