Directors Anders and Voss follow life on the fringes of the L.A. music scene, using familiar faces--such as Duran Duran's John Taylor starring as a faded rock star--to play familiar music-types. As this is a study in the vagaries of human nature, serious lapses of judgment abound, whether it's a junkie slipping back into drugs or a guitarist fooling around on the road while his pregnant wife and kids wait at home.
Sheedy's character, a production designer looking for Mr. Right, is the script's biggest flaw, but Sugar Town is a slight--though largely engaging--look at those who've tasted success and are desperate to regain the magic.
