Whew! It's been, like, weeks since the last teen sex comedy, but this one, thankfully, is worth waiting for. In this, um, coming-of-age tale, four horny seniors make a pledge to lose their virginity before the prom, and--wouldn't you know it?--in the process of losin' it they gain maturity as well as satisfy their youthful urges. Be prepared for lots of raunchy jokes, gross-out humor and a bit of sex--as solo performances, various duets and even a go at the apple pie of the title.
Not all of the storylines work equally well, but the young cast is good--Biggs, Klein and Hannigan especially are standouts--and Eugene Levy is embarrassingly hilarious as a cloddish father. Despite its crass elements, the film's underlying message that love is better than sex (or at least sex is better with love) is pretty conventional.
