Ever wonder what the funk is up George Clinton's beard? Neither did we. But it's sure hard to ignore when an eight-story version of it is starting you in the face. Too bad that's one of the more memorable moments in this latest Imax film, which promises some serious front-row and backstage action with an array of musicians. But a Mötley Crüe show this ain't, folks.
The performances from artists such as Clinton (with Mary J. Blige), Sting and a super jam featuring members of the Roots, Phish and B.B. King are top-notch but too rehearsed, perfect and, well, kinda stale. Any interviews are whittled down to sound bites, and the crowds in attendance are obviously extras paid to look excited. And all those movie-sponsor Certs product placements? Well, once the desire to mainline Retsin wears off, they're just plain annoying.
