Though this Affair has a few rough patches, Die Hard director McTiernan's flick is good to look at and has a ripping opening and a rip-roaring conclusion. Brosnan plays Crown, Thomas Crown, a man who controls vast sums of money but prefers the simple pleasures of stealing art to actually buying it. When he hits New York's Metropolitan Museum, insurance investigator Catherine Banning (Russo) is hot on his tail--uh, trail.
Predictably, romantic sparks fly between Crown and Banning, and her loyalties become suspect. Okay, it gets a little smoochy, but McTiernan keeps everything loaded with nifty surprises. Crowning it all is the final heist, a truly masterful sequence.
