More poignant and provocative than other recent faith-based flicks, Miracle features the indomitable--and underrated--Harris as a Catholic priest whose job it is to validate or dispel miracles, even as he deals with his own crisis of faith. He's sent to investigate the events surrounding a terminally ill girl who is inexplicably cured by blood from a holy statue.
Can it be the hand of God guided by a modern-day saint? Heche checks in as the daughter of the potential saint, and she sparks romantic feelings in the purposeful priest. The plot gets a bit muddled, but the actors are good, and Holland directs this small story with admirable restraint.
