This film will send shivers down the spine of even the most jaded moviegoer. A gritty, hokum-filled faux documentary, Blair Witch Project contains no gore and few surprises--its secret lies in suggesting horror rather than revealing it. It knows this simple fact: All the really scary stuff is inside our own heads. Myrick and Sanchez wrote and directed the story about Maryland witches in a plotless, vérité style that left the actors nearly clueless as to what was really happening, and the result is a world away from the tongue-in-cheek horror Kevin Williamson has been so successful with.
Provided viewers let themselves go, this film is positively terrifying.
