Scaremeister Williamson (Scream) directs the first script he ever wrote. The film (despite its original title, Killing Mrs. Tingle) plays more like Williamson's Dawson's Creek than the gory good fun he?s made a name with. The bad news is his shtick is limp this time around. The good news is Mirren, in the title role, isn't. She's a creepy, anal-retentive history teacher who dispatches her students with verbal zingers sharp enough to disembowel even the brightest honor student.
Holmes is an underprivileged kid trying to land a scholarship in order to get out of small-town America but who runs afoul of Tingle. Trouble ensues, bad things happen and a battle of wits between Holmes and her teacher pushes the boundaries of credibility.
