Jason Hoppy is defending allegations that he's harassing Bethenny Frankel's new boyfriend.

In a letter sent to Dennis Shields' attorney and obtained by TMZ, the Real Housewives star's ex-husband explained why he thinks there's no other option but to engage in correspondence, hostile or not, with Shields over email.

"As a concerned father, I often have to contact others when I cannot reach my daughter through her mother," Hoppy reportedly wrote.

In his own words, "I have no choice but to have some type of relationship with him."

E! News learned Tuesday that Hoppy's alleged harassment toward Shields and Frankel has reached such a boiling point that the New York City-based banker is weighing his legal options.

According to a TMZ report, Hoppy sent nearly 50 emails over the past 70 days to both Frankel and Shields, the content of which slammed his ex and alluded to an inevitable end of her relationship with Shields. Additionally, Hoppy allegedly referred to Frankel as "ugly, old and irrelevant."

Of the former couple's latest bout of drama, an insider told E! News, "The [TMZ] article speaks for itself."

Nearly four years after separating, Bethenny and Jason finalized their divorce in July of this year. Throughout the process, they went head-to-head over custody settlements and living arrangements.
