Making history as CoverGirl's first-ever male ambassador, 17-year-old aspiring makeup artist James Charles is now the face of the brand's So Lashy! by BlastPro Mascara, which is designed for all lash types.

"CoverGirl has always been a brand to push for diversity and now that they're taking a huge step forward and including boys, it's so awesome," James exclusively tells E! News. "And I'm so happy I get to lead the movement.

"Makeup is my biggest hobby and I now get to call it my career, which is also cool because not many 17-year-olds can say that. But the best part about it is being able to inspire others and hopefully give confidence to everyone to wear makeup if they want, create, and feel easy, breezy, beautiful."

Working with fellow CoverGirl face Katy Perry on the So Lashy! campaign was nerve-wracking, James admitted. "I'm a huge fan of her, so I was shaking, but she was so kind and made me feel really comfortable, which was awesome. Working with Katy was a complete surprise and one of the coolest experiences."

"So many of Katy's songs are iconic because they're all about confidence," he said. "She's truly an independent, strong woman who is a great role model."

And like his role model, James hopes to inspire confidence in others. "I really hope people, who maybe haven't been confident enough to try out makeup, see me and realize literally anyone can do it and feel beautiful!"
