Shannen Doherty is feeling extra thankful for her friend Sarah Michelle Gellar.

On Wednesday, Gellar made sure to raise awareness around International Breast Cancer Day by shouting out to Doherty—who is currently battling the disease—and her oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Piro, in a sweet Instagram post.

The actress wrote, "To my left is the @theshando, my friend who is kicking cancer in the you know what. But more than that, she is sharing her battle, so people fighting this horrible disease know they are not alone. I am inspired by her on the daily."

She continued, "To my right is Dr Lawrence Piro, the Oncologist who has been side by side in Shannen's fight. It's not a job to this incredible doctor, it's his life. I have never been in the company of a more passionate or dedicated scientist. He is the true definition of a hero. I am honored to know you both."

Gellar also used the moment to inspire others to get checked. "Breast cancer is nowadays the most frequent malignant tumor in the world. But with early detection and incredible doctors like Dr Piro, breast cancer can be fought and won. So today I urge you, make an appt to get checked or even remind a friend to get checked or just think pink and honor those fighting this battle today and everyday."

Doherty reposted the same photo, thanking her friend for her constant support.

"It's so important when battling a disease like cancer to have friends like @sarahmgellar," she captioned the picture. "Thank you for always having my back and educating all about this disease. Love you."

Meanwhile, Doherty has had lots of support from friends and family since she revealed her cancer diagnosis last August.

In fact, she just rang in her fifth wedding anniversary with husband Kurt Iswarienko over the weekend, thanking him for sticking by her side through the battle. In an Instagram post shared Saturday afternoon, she gave a glimpse into the memories she was making while in Mexico.

"5 years ago today I made one of the best decisions of my life. I said 'I do' and married my best friend and soul mate @kurtiswarienko," she wrote while meeting a zebra. "Life has thrown us some huge curves and we have faced them together with strength, love, passion and a desire to stand next to one another thru it all."

She added, "I have learned what partnership truly is with this man. Yes we love to travel and have adventures together like today... hanging out with Vicky the zebra but everyday is an adventure with Kurt regardless of where we are and what we are doing. #thisistruelove #anniversary #mexico."
