Seven months ago, Joe began serving his 41-month prison sentence at New Jersey's Fort Dix Correctional Institution. Teresa has been visiting him regularly, just as he did when she was imprisoned at Connecticut's Danbury Correctional Facility last year. Sunday marks the couple's 17th wedding anniversary—but the Real Housewives of New Jersey star may have other plans.
"I don't know if I'm going to go and see him that day, just because I have to check my girls' schedule," Teresa told E! News Sunday at the Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino's 20th anniversary party in Uncasville, Conn. "We put our kids first," the reality star added. "Then I'll probably go see him the following day."
"He said he had a surprise for me, and that he wrote me a song," Teresa added. "I gotta pitch it out there: He wants John Legend to sing it to me. So, we'll see. You never know!"
Teresa knows how important it is to maintain contact while Joe is away. "I send him cards all the time," the mother of four said. "He's sending me a special card, too. I can't wait to get it!"
Their marriage has seen its ups and downs, and Teresa has never doubted their love. "We're going to be married 17 years, and I guess...I can tell he's really into me still, which is a good thing!" she said. "I guess I'm doing something right. We're married 17 years, so...I can't wait for him to come home and he can't wait to come home, so obviously we're doing something right."
Coincidentally, Sunday's episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey showed Joe leaving for prison. "You learn two things in there. You either learn how to become a criminal or a better person," he said. "I'm gonna try to become a better person. I've accepted what I have to do, so I'm ready to go in and get it over with." Addressing viewers, he confessed, "I'm not really scared of too many things. Every day you live for the time that you're here. You can't predict what's going to happen tomorrow. You can't even predict what's going to happen in a few minutes. Nobody's really prepared and mentally ready to go in. But it's really happening. I'm going in."
