Kelly Clarkson has been busy during her maternity leave.
E! News caught up with the "Piece by Piece" singer, 34, in New York City Tuesday, where she was promoting her latest children's book, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby (available now). The book series was inspired by her daughter, River Rose Blackstock, and Kelly had plenty of time to write after giving birth to her son, Remington Alexander Blackstock, five months ago.
Coming up with a book title was easy—almost as easy as naming her children, it turns out. So, how did Kelly and her husband Brandon Blackstock devise such unique names for their babies?
"My husband and I, we live on a river, so we're very original with that," the American Idol winner said with a laugh. In all seriousness, Kelly said, "We thought it was such a cool name because I like androgynous things, so I liked that it could have gone either way if it was a boy or a girl."
"With Remy, we actually didn't name him. Our friends did," Kelly revealed. "We were at a lunch and I wasn't even pregnant yet. I was like, 'Man, if we have another kid, we'd want an R name.' I think it was my nanny and my assistant shouted out 'Remington!' and we were like, 'Ooh.' We call him Remy B, because Remington and Remy don't really fit. He's kind of the most super chill dude ever. He kind of has to be, because our 2-year-old daughter rules the nest."
Indeed she does. According to Kelly, her mini-me" is the opposite of chill. She is me! She is 100 percent all the time." River Rose is "the sweetest thing," Kelly added, "but she's also 2, so she can go from the sweetest thing to the most awful thing. It's like, 'You need to not be a demon!'"
Life has been moving at warp speed since Remy B.'s birth. "There is a giant difference between one kid and two, and then there's an even bigger one: We have two older ones as well," Kelly says, referring to her husband's two children from a previous marriage. "A lot of times we'll have four kids in one house, so that's a lot of kids—but, it's good. It's like 99 percent of the time is amazing and awesome. I didn't grow up around my sisters or brothers...It's a big family."
So, do Kelly and Brandon want more kids? "No! Unless someone dies and gives us their kids or something, no," the "Miss Independent" singer said. "I had miserable pregnancies, that's why."
