Solange Knowles drove home that message in newly released music video for "Don't Touch My Hair," a track off her highly anticipated fourth studio album, A Seat at the Table.
Debuted on Sunday, the video features the 30-year-old songstress surrounded by groups of men and women dancing and sporting their various hairstyles.
The nearly five minute visual was joined by a second clip for the album's serene "Cranes in the Sky," which features Solange wearing gold body paint and sitting cliffside. The star also featured groups of women sitting around her in matching ensembles in what seems to be a symbol of solidarity.
Both videos were directed by Knowles and her husband of two years, Alan Ferguson, and she couldn't be prouder. "We put soooo much love into these and I hope they make you proud," she wrote on Instagram of the two visuals.
As her first album in four years, Solange is happy to be able to tell her story her way.
"When I first started writing this record I was tired, filled with grief, and feeling broken. I felt so many got to create my narrative and all I wanted to tell my story, our story, in my own words, and in my own voice," she wrote on Instagram upon the album's release.
"4 years later I am completely overwhelmed and humbled with pride and GRATITUDE for all of the love I have received on #aseatatthetable . I'm actually stunned still. I can't even put into words. Thank you all. I can't thank you enough."
Famous sister Beyoncé and mom Tina Knowles are equally impressed with Solange's latest creation as it climbed to the top spot on iTunes' Top Albums chart. "Congrats to my sister on creating this beautiful work of art," the "Crazy in Love" singer wrote on Instagram. "I could not be more proud of you."
