Her mom Goldie Hawn may have been Private Benjamin, but Kate Hudson had never been to a real military base until this week.

The actress and her dad Kurt Russell made a special visit earlier this week to the Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi to present a special screening of their upcoming real-life drama Deepwater Horizon. Their director Peter Berg was also there for the big day.

Hudson posted a video montage of pics from their visit on Instagram. "What a great day visiting the Keesler Air Force base in Biloxi Mississippi with @pberg44 and my Pa," she captioned the vid. "This was my first base visit and it was an honor to be in the company of those who choose to serve our country! You extraordinary men and women were a joy to meet. Thank you for your warm welcome and your service! Much respect. #KeeslerAirForceBase #DeepwaterHorizonMovie."

Kate Hudson Had "a Moment" While Working With Kurt Russell

Deepwater Horizon tells the story of the BP oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 that killed 11 people and devastated the environment. The film also stars Mark Wahlberg, Gina Rodriguez, John Malkovich and Dylan O'Brien.

The movie marks Hudson and Russell's first time together on the big screen. The Almost Famous actress told me at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month that she hopes they work together again.

"It wasn't our On Golden Pond moment yet," Hudson said, referring to Jane Fonda's iconic drama with her dad Peter Fonda. "In the future [that] will happen."

Deepwater Horizon is in theaters on Sept. 30.
