Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice Finally Decided What to Do About Her "Cancerous" Cousins

Kathy and Rosie got that lunch they'd been after with their estranged cousin, but it certainly didn't go as they'd hoped

Well, we can't say we didn't see that coming.

On tonight's new episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Kathie Wakile and Rosie Pierri finally got their lunch with their estranged cousin Teresa Giudice, but it didn't go at all how they'd hoped. Unless they were hoping to be referred to as cancer that needed removing. In which case, lunch was gangbusters!

All kidding aside, this was a remarkably somber conclusion to a long-simmering feud that we may have only been made privy to in season three, but clearly was festering long before. And damn, was it depressing. Watching families sever ties doesn't make for escapist TV. Who knew?

Honestly, we were a little surprised that Teresa even wound up agreeing to the lunch after watching her shut Siggy Flicker and Jacqueline Laurita down so thoroughly when the two attempted to plead Kathy and Rosie's case on their behalf. "With due all respect to both of yous, I don't f--king get involved in your family life, so please don't get involved in mine," Tre told them. (And yes, she truly said those words in that order. That's no typo.)

Eventually, it was her brother Joe Gorga who finally got her to agree to go by promising to go with her. It was a promise he immediately regretted, but one he kept anyway.

Right from the jump, Tre made it clear that she wasn't interested in a reconciliation. "Kath, listen, not that I don't want to be your family. You guys are always going to be my family. We have the same blood," she said. "I just want to be left alone, really. I don't want to be hurt anymore." From there, she aired her list of grievances: Richie's always got something nasty to say, they didn't reach out to her once while she was away, and, in her eyes, they're only interested now because she's back in the public eye.

It's that last one that has always seemed to be the major underlying cause of Teresa's lack of trust in her cousins—that they're using her fame for attention of their own, stepping into her spotlight while also airing her dirty laundry and hurting her in the process—and it's the one that hurt Rosie the most.

"Then you don't know me really, then," Rosie said to her cousin. "You never did."

"OK, so then I don't," Tre replied. Ouch.

From there, we got the big moment that we'd been teased with. "It's just, with us, guys, there's been a lot of turmoil. I want to cut the cancer out, really," Teresa told them.

Rosie told her she wasn't going to beg anymore, and Teresa told her she didn't want her to. Double ouch.

As it ended with Kathie talking about the promise of "possibilities" as if she'd been in a different restaurant entirely while cousin was talking, Teresa and Joe walked to the car, each fighting back tears over the finality of it all.

"It's like, I'm just so tired of s--t," Teresa said. "It's exhausting."

"It's sad," Joe replied. Indeed.
