Life in Hollywood looked a heck of a lot different at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards!

Jessica Simpson and Dane Cook hosted the awards show that year, fresh off the heels of their comedy Employee of the Month. Simpson and Nick Lachey had announced their divorce about a year beforehand, but both attended the event and turned it into an "awkward" experience for everyone involved.

Lachey took home the award for Choice Love Song for "What's Left of Me," a song about the demise of his marriage, and gave an uncomfortable acceptance speech given his ex-wife was the host. "I just want to start off by saying...awkward?" he said, smiling. "A little bit!"

What's strange in hindsight is that Britney Spears, who was pregnant at the time, introduced then-husband Kevin Federline's performance, but only a couple of months later the "Stronger" songstress would file for divorce. These two scenarios alone made this event must-see TV.

Couples aside, the fashion also spoke volumes, as did the other celebrities who attended the show. Before Ashley Olsen became a revered fashion designer with her sister, Mary-Kate Olsen, she not only attended the exciting event but also presented alongside Snoop Dogg. The It Takes Two actress looked gorgeous in a black dress with a sheer overlay, and although it looks dated now, we can't help but feel nostalgic for the blond bombshell...pre-The Row.

Looking back, Miley Cyrus also looked the epitome of a teenager growing up in the new millennium. Wearing jeans with a blue and red polka dot dress over them, Miley was just being Miley—with a long beaded necklace, brown open-toed shoes and a hairdo that will make you think of a former Miley era.

Jessica Alba took a page out of Miley's book and also opted to wear jeans, but she paired them with a strapless top and knee-high brown boots. At that point she had been dating now-husband Cash Warren for two years.

Emily Deschanel also epitomized another fashion craze at the time: spaghetti-strap dresses. The Bones star not only donned a bright red version of one of these frocks, but she also paired it with the ever-popular hairstyle at the time: a bump. We've come a long way, people. We've come a long way.

Making our hearts swell is the fact that the cast of High School Musical posed with their winning surfboard, where they all look like the youngest of stars. Vanessa Hudgens stood next to then-boyfriend Zac Efron, and all was well in the world. We miss you, Zanessa!

But on a more tragic note, Brittany Murphy attended the awards show that year, three years before she passed away. The beloved actress wore a magenta dress with strappy black heels, making her perhaps one of the more fashion-forward stars at the event.
