Happiness is not a destination—it's a state of mind.

This summer, we're all naturally a bit more energized, so why not show off your mood by dressing the way you feel on the inside? We're not going to argue that wearing yellow is a bold move, but there's no better time of year to whip out your brights and spread those good vibes everywhere you go.

If you're a fashion risk-taker, like Rita Ora, all rules are out the window. Take her fuzzy, yellow T-shirt, which alone, is already an aggressive choice. Throw in a pair of slacks and patent pumps in the same color and some might say you're crossing a line. So, what makes her look work? It's really as simple as breaking it up with varying textures.

Who said professional wear has to be boring? Not Jessica Alba. Black and white is always a solid choice when it comes to outfitting yourself for serious business meetings, but to make a lasting impression (and to avoid coming off as #basic), do something unexpected. For instance, a touch of sunny yellow at the feet demonstrates your fashion-girl status without being over the top, or worse, looking like you're trying too hard.

Bright yellow doesn't exactly scream classy, but leave it to Victoria Beckham to challenge that notion. Sure, this electric-yellow ensemble is a head turner, but it's the silky fabric and loose fit that keeps it looking sophisticated. Want to test drive the full-on look? Just make sure your pieces are tailored (a soft, luxe fabric doesn't hurt either); otherwise, you'll look abrasive instead of pulled together.

Reese Witherspoon is a cool mom, there's no doubt about that. She's always impeccably dressed for the occasion; however, it's her accessories game that makes this brunch-appropriate look stand out. Sure, a neutral structured handbag would work perfectly well with the actress' poised style, but a canary-yellow version adds a very welcome (and unexpected) touch of color.

Easy, breezy and oh-so boho. That's what you get when you do yellow in a flowy silhouette like Lizzy Caplan. To make the no-fuss look work for your next outdoor party, keep it simple and don't overthink it. Red lips, minimal jewelry and chunky platforms are the only details you need to complete your outfit.
