Dr. Luke's Label Won't Allow Kesha to Perform at 2016 Billboard Music Awards

UPDATE: Kesha took to Instagram to address her canceled Billboard Music Awards performance with a photo of herself strumming a guitar. The singer wrote: "I was very excited to perform a tribute to Bob Dylan by singing a cover of "It ain't me, babe" at the Billboard awards this year. I'm very sad and sorry to say I won't be allowed to do this. I just wanted to make very clear that this performance was about me honoring one of my favorite songwriters of all time and has never had anything at all to do with Dr. Luke. I was never going to use a picture of him, speak of him or allude to my legal situation in any way. I simply wanted to sing a song I love to honor an artist I have always looked up to. thank u all for the continued support."

Unfortunately, Kesha fans will not be seeing the singer take on the stage at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards this weekend.

E! News has learned that the singer was slated to perform, along with a number of notable artists, for the big awards show on May 22, but apparently Dr. Luke's label changed their mind on the matter.

"We have received numerous inquiries as to whether or not Kesha is performing on the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke's record label, Kemosabe Records," dick clark productions tells E! News in a statement, adding that things then took a turn.

"Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday, May 11 regarding Kesha's appearance on the BBMAs. Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show. dick clark productions has a long standing relationship with Kesha. We hope that the parties can come to an arrangement such that we can continue that long standing relationship with a performance by Kesha on the Billboard Music Awards stage on May 22."

E! News has reached out to Kesha and Kemosabe Records for comment.

This comes amid an ongoing legal battle between Kesha and the music producer, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, stemming from allegations that he committed sexual assault and battery against her.

The 29-year-old pop singer had made her claims in a 2014 lawsuit against the 42-year-old music producer, who had worked with her in the past, and is also seeking to invalidate her recording contracts with him. Dr. Luke has denied Kesha's allegations, saying he "didn't rape Kesha" and "have never had sex with her" and had also filed a countersuit.

Should Kesha end up being able to perform on Sunday night, she will join a star-studded lineup of performances. Justin Bieber, Céline Dion, Ariana Grande and other musicians are expected to take the stage to perform some of their biggest hits. Others, such as Adele, will debut new music videos.

Stars like Jessica Alba, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Wiz Khalifa as well as Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell, Lauren Cohan, Kathryn Hahn, Idina Menzel, Keke Palmer, Rebecca Romijn, Serayah, Steven Tyler, Lindsey Vonn and Pete Wentz will all present awards throughout the evening.

Ludacris and Ciara will lead the night as hosts of the annual awards show, which will air at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT on ABC this Sunday.
