Emma Stone...is that you?

We almost didn't recognize the Oscar nominee when she stepped out onto the red carpet at the 2016 Met Gala. Draped in a cream Prada gown with a silver corset embellished with floral accents, the actress looked as fierce and fashion forward as ever.

However, it was her hair color that had everyone doing a double-take. Instead of her typical red hue or bright blond tresses, the Birdman actress opted for sleek chocolate locks snipped at the shoulders asymmetrically.

While this is certainly not the first time we've seen Stone with darker hair, the cut is a fresh alternative to her typically wavy banged look.

To top off the rest of her Gladiator-esque ensemble, Stone also sported bronze skin and a gunmetal smokey eye that made her big blue eyes pop more than usual.

While the ensemble didn't seem to be too inspired by technology, it certainly prompted a ton of buzz online.

"Emma Stone is so great that I'm just gonna say I love the darker hair and move along. #MetGala," one fan wrote.

She even inspired comparisons to a famous brunette princess.

"If Xena Warrior Princess wore a gown..." another fan described on Twitter.

Perhaps the look will inspire a silver screen reboot starring stone? Either way, we hope these new tresses don't disappear when the clock strikes midnight.
