One of music's most influential couples is celebrating what may be their most important milestone yet.

Beyoncé and Jay Z have reached their eighth wedding anniversary today. While the benchmark holds no traditional significance in the grand history of anniversaries, it is unique to this famous pair because of a connection to a special number as a double of four.

Months before Beyoncé declared "If you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it," she let Jay Z slip a wedding ring on her finger and said "I Do" to her longtime boyfriend in a highly secretive ceremony on April 4, 2008—the fourth day of the fourth month of the year.

"[4 has been] my favorite number since I was a kid," the "Drunk in Love" singer declared in her Year of 4 feature. "It's the number of my birthday, September 4, my mother's birthday, January 4, my husband's birthday, December 4 [and] it's the anniversary of my wedding."

The number has continued to pop up in the couple's life in subtle, yet significant ways. Bey and Jay's only child's name Blue Ivy is marked phonetically as "IV" is the roman numeral for four—the same numeral tattooed on her parents' ring fingers as a sign of their solidarity.

According to celebrity numerologist Julian Michael, the even number is indicative of Jay Z and Beyoncé's union and all of the possibilities it presented them nearly a decade ago as a building block to future triumph.

"The number 4 is a window. It has four sides. It is all about organization, management, discipline in regards to being aligned," he told E! News. "It is the brick, a building block. Your foundation of the building. The number four is also a door; when you choose to walk through the door you connect with infinite opportunity, possibility, creativity...when you come through the door you're ready for the unknown because you're ready to embrace the unknown. You're coming from a place of fearlessness. You're here to empower others with the four."

As TIME's formerly ranked "most powerful couple," Mr. and Mrs. Carter have certainly empowered each other in all realms since they became a married pair. From 2008 on, the "Holy Grail" rapper has added 16 more Grammy Award wins to his musical resumé while his leading lady has taken home another ten. Bey's 2013 visual album Beyoncé broke the record for the fastest-selling album on iTunes.

"He's taught me so much about being an artist, not a musician, but an artist and fighting for what I believe and having my standards," she said in her 2013 Life Is But a Dream documentary.

The following summer they hit the road for their first co-headlining tour, On The Run. At the time, it became the second-highest grossing tour per show in history.  As the "Partition" performer sang out toward the end of each show, "Tell me why do I bring out the best in you."

Since their wedding day, the Carters have earned more than $790 million combined and are on their way to becoming self-made billionaires in unison.

"The one thing the tour has shown is that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. They are grossing more in one night together than they are individually," Forbes Senior Editor Zack Greenburg told E! News. "Combined they are very rapidly approaching the billion dollar mark. If they were alone it would be much tougher."

According to the numerology, this eighth year highlights the couple's requisite for balance if they want to maintain their rise to personal, professional and financial success and happiness. If they are able to find such an equilibrium, according to the numerology, they may unlock their "infinite power."

"The number 8 is two circles. The bottom circle is physical, material, money; and the top circle is mental, intuitive, spiritual. It is important these two circles are balanced and that you are happy with those circles and dimensions of your life. Because if not, they can go either way. The balance and harmony of those two worlds are very important," Michael continued.

"When you take the 8 horizontally you have infinite power, infinite intelligence, infinite possibility...It is the understanding of power, of ultimate prosperity; health and wealth both energetically and spiritually. The number eight is the vibration of a boss. A boss in the new paradigm, a holistic one; how to serve, work with other people, having them brainstorm, everyone working together to make dreams come true."

After more than a decade of partnership, their dreams continue to come to fruition while at each other's side. Following her debut of her surprise single, "Formation," at Super Bowl 50, she launched her fifth solo world tour. Then, days ahead of her anniversary, Beyoncé unveiled her first athleisure line, Ivy Park.

While Bey's upcoming sixth studio album remains a tightly guarded mystery, an alleged track list has circulated the internet featuring duets with Adele, Mariah CareyFrank Ocean and—of course—her husband.
