Tom Cruise, Matt Lauer: Today They're Total Buds

The actor and the host get along great on this morning's Today show

Tom Cruise's much-touted return the Today show was more lovefest than showdown.

The newly minted Golden Globe nominee famously butted heads with Matt Lauer three years ago when Cruise vehemently bashed psychology and the use of antidepressant medications.

However, this morning, Cruise immediately attempted to make amends for his previous visit.

"After looking at it, I really thought, you know, it's not what I had intended," he said. "In looking at it, I thought I came across as arrogant. It's one of those things you go, 'OK, I could have handled that a lot better.' I didn't communicate it the way that I wanted to communicate it. And also, that's not who I am. That's not the person that I am."

The host later asked the actor about his decision not to talk about Scientology. Cruise said it's not that he won't talk about it, but "there's a time and place for it."

Tension between Lauer and the Top Gunner was nonexistent. In fact, the morning-show king claimed "there was no animosity there" immediately following the fateful interview. The segment even showed a clip of the pair hugging at a Friars Roast.

Cruise returns to the morning show Wednesday with Valkyrie director Bryan Singer. Perhaps we'll see a little more action from the actioner.
