The former Vampire Diaries actress celebrated on Saturday with boyfriend Austin Stowell, 31, and friends such as former co-star Kat Graham, 26, Nick Jonas, 23, Julianne Hough, 27, Hailee Steinfeld, 19, Jessica Szohr, 30, and Eli Mizrahi. Guests were told to dress up as different emojis, E! News has learned. Most popular costumes? Smiley faces and yes, poop and eggplants.
Dobrev dressed up as a cat, complete with a black cat suit and gold face paint, and briefly pole-danced while wearing an cardboard cut-out adorned with "frequently used" emojis (i.e., poop and eggplant). She also donned the piece while blowing out the candles on her birthday cake. Stowell dressed up like a panda emoji. Jonas was a 100 symbol. Several partygoers posted pics on Instagram.
"It was a great birthday," a source told E! News exclusively. "Nina was so happy so many of her close friends turned out. It was a big party."
"Austin and Nina were really cute together and you can tell how much they care about each other," the source added.
The two first sparked romance rumors last May and confirmed a relationship the following October, on social media.
Stowell posted on his Twitter page on Saturday a sweet birthday message for his lady, alongside a photo of the two on a hike.
"Happy birthday to my favorite little Yankee fan..." he wrote.
