ESC, History of Grammy Fashion

This year's Grammys nominations were just announced, and as a nod to the music industry's swankiest night, we took a microscope to red carpet trends from award shows past. As it turns out, nominated musicians haven't only been ahead of the curve in terms of music-making, but on the fashion front as well. Red carpet stunners like Linda Thompson (who sported a choker back in 1979) and Paula Abdul (who rocked a half-up hairdo in 1990) unknowingly set the bar for some of today's biggest celebrity trends. For an awards show typically known for its out-there fashion, a history of Grammys style proves it's pretty avant-garde.

Sure, Rihanna loves her colored fur and Lady Gaga dares to go pantless, but today's fashion risk-takers weren't actually the first to wear the daring looks.
