Viola Davis is 50 and fabulous, and she got the surprise party to prove it!
Though the Suicide Squad actress turned the big 5-0 on Aug. 11, her friends and family helped surprise her over the weekend with a big party… because, obviously, that's the only way to officially ring in the milestone birthday.
The party was held at Hutchinson steakhouse in West Hollywood, where guests feasted on Indonesian food and cupcakes and let the champagne flow with bottles of Moët.
Davis—who was absolutely shocked, as you can see by the look on her face—took to Twitter on Monday to share a few photos and thank everyone for giving her the surprise of a lifetime. She wrote, "It was the surprise of my life! I couldn't have anticipated such love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"
She also added, "Thanks @MoetUSA for helping me celebrate my b-day at @LA_Hutchinson. So surprised, what a special night!! #moetmoment."
Meanwhile, the How to Get Away With Murder star has more than just a birthday to celebrate. She helped make Emmy history when both she and Taraji P. Henson were nominated, respectively, for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series—the first time two black women have earned an Emmy nomination in this category in the same year.
Even more history would be made if Davis or Henson wns, as no black woman has yet to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
Davis might want to keep some of that champagne on ice for Emmys night on Sept. 20 and then the season two premiere of HTGAWM on Sept. 24 on ABC. What a week it will be!
