Rosie O'Donnell is mourning the loss of her father.

The comedian's publicist confirmed to E! News that Edward Joseph O'Donnell passed away after battling cancer. He was 81.

"Through him - with him - in him ..." Rosie cryptically tweeted Sunday afternoon with a mural that featured retro photos and the word "hurts." She also quoted song lyrics from Florence + The Machine's hit single "St. Jude."

"And I'm learning, so I'm leaving/And even though I'm grieving," she wrote on social media. "I'm trying to find the meaning/Let loss reveal it."

Rosie has been open about her strained relationship with Edward Joseph after her mother died from cancer back in March 1973.

"He had his own issues and demons, he had a very tough childhood, he had an alcoholic, abusive father and never really got the help that I think every person needs when they have lived through that as a child," the former View co-host shared with Piers Morgan back in 20012. "I think that he had a lot of problems to deal with."

She added, "No matter what, at the end of the day, every child loves their dad."

Rosie's family news comes less than a week after E! News learned that her 17-year-old daughter Chelsea O'Donnell was reported missing and then found alive in a friend's New Jersey home.

The mother-daughter duo was ultimately able to reunite, which police described as "vanilla" and "neutral" without any hostility.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rosie's family.
