Scott Disick recently dropped hints that he's missing ex Kourtney Kardashian, and now, E! News learns that's exactly the case.

A source close to the celeb tells E! News that Scott "knows he screwed up," and adds that, "He's trying to get his life together and that includes getting his family back. He's hoping he and Kourtney can put this behind them. He knows it won't be easy. At the very least, he wants to be friends again."

Additionally, the insider admits Disick hasn't been doing well. "He can't believe how quickly this spiraled. He always thought he could keep it together, until he couldn't."

"He knows he has to prove himself to Kourtney. He needs to show her he can be an adult. That's all she wants. She knows he likes to party, but she wants an adult who will be there for her and the family every day," the source continues.

In terms of the kids, "Scott is adamant that his kids will not grow up without a father. He wants to be there for them." Right now, source says he sees them fairly regularly.

Friends are hopeful he'll clean up his act but, "it's still too early to tell. It's Scott—he could wig out at any minute. It's a wait-and-see situation."

Meanwhile, Kourt has stayed pretty mum, but tweeted a link today to a Ted Talks about The Power of Vulnerability:

And as for reports claiming Kourtney received a call from Disick's ex, Chloe Bartoli, to reassure the E! star that nothing happened between her and Scott, E! News learns, "Chloe would do it if Scott asked her to and it would help smooth things out between him and Kourtney," a source close to Bartoli tells us.

"Chloe and Scott have been friends a long time, before he ever met Kourtney," the insider adds. "Chloe has always insisted nothing happened between her and Scott."

The 36-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and mother of their three children had broken up with Disick around the Fourth of July holiday after he had engaged in a month-long partying bender and was photographed in Monte Carlo looking cozy with an ex-girlfriend. He has not commented about the pics.

After the split, he reportedly partied in Miami and last week, he attended club parties in Las Vegas and in Canada, where he was photographed with two female workers, or "cowbabes."

Also, he and Kourtney reunited for lunch recently with son Mason Disick, 5, and Penelope Disick, 3.
