Haircuts can be a very fickle thing.

When celebrities make the drastic decision to chop off their lovely locks, it can either be a well received changed or a disaster. Kate Mara, apparently, is a victim of the former. While we think she pulls off her pixie cut, others are quick to disagree.

The Fantastic Four actress endured one of the most awkward interviews of all time alongside co-star Michael B. Jordan, in which radio host Steven J. Rickman criticized her cut (among other things).

"You're way, way hot," he told her. "Why'd you cut the hair? Your hair was beautiful."

"I'm sorry," Mara said. "I know you don't like it. I can tell."

"This is a great interview," she said sarcastically before exchanging glances with Jamie Bell and Jordan. Rickman added, "You look great with short hair or long hair, but the long hair was excellent. So, did you cut your hair for this?"

"I cut my hair for a movie I just did," Mara replied.

"What would you cut your hair for?" Rickman asked.

"They asked me to," Mara explained. "I'm an actress. I have to be a chameleon."

Although the haircut wasn't her choice, Mara's father, Timothy Mara, had the same sentiments when it came to seeing his daughter's new 'do. While appearing on Live! With Kelly and Michael Tuesday, Mara explained that she has received mostly positive feedback about her hair, but her dad was quick to comment otherwise.

"Yeah, I got a lot of nice things. I got one sort of negative thing said to me," she explained to Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. "I text messaged my dad the other day saying 'I miss you' and his response was 'I miss your hair'…So THANKS dad!"

Haters aside, Mara couldn't be happier with her chopped locks.

"I don't have to wash it now. I don't have to brush it," she explained. "I love it."

Whether or not family, friends and journalists appreciate her "chameleon" look, Mara is content to have been able to secure her high-profile, risqué roles, even if it means her dad, who is part owner of the New York Giants, has to be awkward about them in the NFL locker room!
