I Am Cait has its humorous moments, too.
Though she has identified as female since childhood, Caitlyn Jenner didn't always feel others would recognize that. Long before went public about her transition, she wanted to know what life would be like when others accepted that she is a woman. "Like if you call down to room service, OK?" she recalls. "I'd be sitting there in my little room, all by my lonesome, and I'd think OK! I'm going to try to get my best feminine voice and call down so they say, 'Yes, ma'am.' I could never do it."
"Try it," Kim Kardashian says. "I'll tell you if you get a 'yes, ma'am.'"
Malika Haqq adds, "Let's hear her!"
"Front desk!" Kardashian says while impersonating a hotel employee. "Hey, this is room service. How can I help you?" Then, as herself, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star instructs, "Order bacon and eggs and an orange juice and toast."
"Yes, actually, you can help me!" Jenner says.
Kardashian laughs and yells, "You sound no different!"
"I didn't think so!" Jenner says in agreement.
"Sir! What would you like, sir?" Kardashian teases.
"See!" Jenner says. "That's the problem!"
Jenner can laugh about it now, sure, but not then. "Women cannot relate to the whole voice thing," she explains. "They don't see it as being that important when it is that important, not only for you to speak and order and do all that kind of stuff, but very important for your soul that you're feeling good about that."
After accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs, Jenner said she was still insecure. "While I felt like I looked great and that the gown looked fabulous, I still have a voice issue," she blogged. "It's not quite right compared to my feminine appearance. That bothers me a little bit. However, I hope that people don't listen to the pitch of my voice, but listen to what I have to say. That's important to me."
