Sad news for country music fans.

Singer Daron Norwood has passed away, E! News confirms. According to police, the 49-year-old musician was found dead in his Texas apartment.

Police Chief Brant Harrison tells E! News that officers, along with medical personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive subject around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, Norwood was found dead in a bedroom.

Officials say they did not observe any signs of foul play. Norwood's death remains under investigation.

According to reports, Norwood was last seen on Tuesday night with his friends. His body was discovered after his landlord reportedly stopped by his apartment and let himself in to check on the recording artist.

Over the course of his career, Norword released three albums, 1993's Daron Norwood, 1995's Ready, Willing and Able and 2012's I Still Believe. Two of his singles "If It Wasn't For Her I Wouldn't Have You" as well as "Cowboys Don't Cry"—both from his debut album—made the country top 40.

Norword also previously struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, but said he got sober in 1995. During his last three days of drinking, he revealed he was having 25 shots of Jack Daniels a night.

The musician later founded "Keep It Straight" with his wife Kim in 1997 in order to warn children about the dangers of substance abuse.

"Through my music, I can let people know there is a country singer out here who cares about them. There's a guy who's trying to do it different. And trying to be ... not perfect, but the best he can be," he told Country Weekly back in 2002. "And I'm trying to keep it straight. That's it, brother."

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Norwood's family and friends.
