Superhero delivers super ratings!  The Flash, The CW's new series about the DC Comics speedster character, delivered huge numbers for the fledgling network. In fact, The Flash outpunched ABC and Fox last night. Yep, you read that right!

The series premiere of The Flash had 4.5 million viewers, the best premiere The CW has had since 2009 when The Vampire Diaries burst onto the scene. The premiere was also The CW's most-watched telecast of any show since The Vampire Diaries' premiere. The drama, which stars Grant Gustin as the speedy superhero, had a 1.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

The Flash is a spinoff of Arrow, The CW's other hot DC Comics property. Gustin plays Barry Allen, a crime scene investigator who witnesses the death of his mother under strange circumstances. His father, played by John Wesley Shipp the star of the Flash TV series from the ‘90s, is arrested for the crime and Barry goes to live with Detective West (Jesse L. Martin).  The show also stars Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Rick Cosnett, Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh and hails from Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Geoff Johns, David Nutter and Sarah Schechter.

The Flash's Fox competition, a rerun of the Family Guy-The Simpsons crossover had a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with roughly 2 million viewers. On ABC, new comedies Selfie and Manhattan Love Story dropped from their premieres last week. Selfie had 3.9 million viewers and a 1.1 rating and Manhattan Love Story brought in 3.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating. At 9 p.m. on ABC Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had just 4.4 million viewers. DC Comics beat Marvel on the small screen on Tuesday.

The Flash will crossover with Arrow later this season and many iconic DC villains will pop up on the show. Prison Break star Wentworth Miller will guest star as Captain Cold. Johns shared pictures of the villain on Instagram. Check them out below.
