Even Olympians can find themselves in danger when enthusiastic fans are around.

Eleven-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte is currently suffering a serious knee injury, but it wasn't due to any strenuous training or workout. Nope, Lochte hurt himself by running into an eager fan—literally.

The hunky athlete toppled over when an excited young teenage girl ran to him while he was in Florida on Sunday, causing Lochte to tear his MCL and sprain his ACL in his left knee.

"As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter, Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition," Lochte's rep tells E! News.

"His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery, and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes."

Although the outcome is unfortunate, it's no surprise that the young fan was excited to see the blue-eyed athlete.

Lochte swam into the hearts of many females after the 2012 Olympics in London (and on his own E! show), thanks to his perfectly toned body, charming smile and impressive skills in the pool. Plus, not a lot of people can pull off a phrase like "jeah!"

What's even better? "I am a single guy right now," Lochte told Chelsea Handler. "I mean, I'm at a point in my life where I do want to settle down and I want to find that one who I can spend the rest of my life with and give my heart to someone. I haven't found it yet."

So what's a girl got to do to catch Lochte's attention (Hint: Running into him will do the trick, but not necessarily the right way)? "If a girl is really independent, that's a turn-on for me. And she doesn't have to play a sport for me to be interested in her!"
